Maria Arcadipane
.
Meaning of Arcadipane [ark-uh-dee-PAH-neh]: from Greek 'arkados', "from Arcadia" |
No primary records of my 4th-great grandfather Maria Arcadipane's birth, marriage, or death have been found. Her name is shown on the marriage record, below, of her son Michele. Her children, grandchildren and subsequent generations were born in Serradifalco. It's not known where she herself was born. |
Civil records were not kept in Sicily until about 1820. Before that time, records of baptism, confirmation, marriage and death were kept by the church, one of the few entities whose administrators could read or write. The official church language was Latin. |
