Meaning of Volpe [VOLE-pay]: fox

I have not found any records of baptism, marriage or death for my great-great-great-great-grandfather Girolamo Volpe, but I know his name from the 1 December 1759 marriage record of his daughter Rosa, which states that Girolamo was still living on that date.    His name is given in Latin on that document, as Hieronimus.
