Katherine Jacobia

 

    The twenty-fifth recipient of the Angela Coniglio Memorial Scholarship, presented at the Amherst Central High School graduation on June 25, 2021, was senior Katherine Jacobia.  She is the sister of the 2018 recipient of the same award, Elizabeth Jacobia.  Katherine received an award of $1,411, provided through the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo.
    ACHS teachers and staff praise Katherine as an extraordinary, balanced young woman and leader who has excelled in the classroom with a 95 average, as well as in athletics and numerous clubs. 
    She was named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad and the 2020 - 21 Academic All American 2nd Team; she is a WNY Scholar Athlete and a member of the Amherst High School National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society.  She played Varsity Field Hockey in each of her four years and led Amherst to the 2017 and 2020 Section VI Class B Field Hockey Championships.

     Her Field Hockey honors and awards include: 2019, 2020 All-state; 2020 Western New York Field Hockey Co-Player of the Year; 2019, 2020 All-WNY; 2018, 2019, 2020 First Team ECIC; team MVP and Captain. She played on a club field hockey team, the Whalers, for five years.

     Her other JV and Varsity sports were Softball and Basketball, including the Varsity Basketball Championship for Section VI in 2021.        
     Katherine is a natural leader who has earned the respect of all of her teachers and coaches.  She is a Mentor, leader in the Captains Club, Spanish Club, Vice President, DECA, Environmental Awareness Club, and a member of the Concert Orchestra all four years. Katherine was a recipient of the Distinguished Student Leader  Award for her junior class. 
      She also volunteers in the community. She went to Costa Rica on a Service Trip, raised money for the Leukemia Society, volunteered with her church to make food for homeless shelters and helped register Amherst students to vote in the 2020 election.
     
Katherine will major in Business at Hobart and William Smith College, where she'll play Field Hockey
